About Many Kites

Many Kites is a creative learning and retreat space in the Northwoods—a place to create, learn, gather & grow. Over the years, I’ve taught everything from art and creative workshops to classes exploring how we think, change, learn, and find our way forward. Many Kites brings those worlds together.

Some days we might make pebble art, suncatchers, stained glass, or something entirely unexpected. Other days we might gather for a Life by Design retreat, spend some time outdoors, share a meal, learn something fascinating about ourselves—and then spend the afternoon making something beautiful. And occassionally, we may build something new for the center.

I don’t think creativity belongs only to artists. I think making things with our hands, learning new things, spending time in nature, and gathering with interesting people are all ways we come more fully alive.

A Little About This Place

Many Kites is rooted in a place that means a great deal to me.

Years ago, my husband and I bought 20 acres in the Northwoods and began the slightly crazy adventure of building our own straw bale home. We learned as we went, made plenty of mistakes, built things with our own hands, planted gardens, and slowly made a life here.

My husband passed away in 2019, and I have continued to live, create, teach, garden, experiment, and dream on the land we shaped together.
Over the years, this place has continued to change right along with me. There are gardens and woods, places to make things, places to gather, and always another project waiting somewhere in the wings.

Many Kites is part of the next chapter of that story—a way to share some of what I love about making things, learning things, gathering people, and living a creative life.

A Little About Me

I’m P. Jamie Lee.

I’m a writer, teacher, artist, coach, gardener, builder-of-things, a student of this human condition, and lifelong collector of interesting ideas. I’ve spent much of my life exploring creativity, learning, personal change, storytelling, and the many ways we make meaning from our lives. I’ve written books, created workshops and tools, taught classes and retreats, and followed more than a few interesting ideas down unexpected paths.

Many Kites itself has existed in different forms over the years. This is its newest chapter.

I’m creating a season of classes, retreats, experiments, and gatherings here on this little piece of the Northwoods. Some will be about making things. Some will be about discovering things. And I suspect some of the best ones will be a little bit of both. Mostly, I want this to be a place where people feel welcome to come as they are, try something new, get their hands dirty, laugh, learn, make something they didn’t know they could make, and perhaps leave seeing themselves—or the world around them—a little differently.

About the Name

The name Many Kites has traveled with me for many years. It was inspired by the first international conference on Family Constellation Work, called “Many Kites Flying in the Same Wind.” I loved that image then, and I still do. Many different people. Many different ideas. Many different ways of creating and moving through the world. Each following its own path, while somehow sharing the same wind.

It seemed like exactly the right name for this place.

Many Kites

A place to create, learn, gather & grow.

Let's make beautiful things happen here.
